April Ross

April Ross was one of the few female beach volleyball stars who won medals during more than one Olympics. She is set to compete in Tokyo to compete for her third Olympic medal with Alix Klineman, who is a first time Olympian. But more than that, Ross hopes to win her very first Olympic gold. As she turns 39, it could be her final opportunity to claim the gold medal at an Olympics. She remains optimistic that she'll be successful in achieving top honours. Ross was mentioned in NBC Boston as saying that if you play your top, even if you perform well, you will win the gold. That's why I'm taking some luck as well. Ross was born in 1982 in Costa Mesa California where she lived with her parents and sister. While at Newport Harbor High School, she was a participant in many activities. When she was a student in the prep school she was a participant in the indoor game of volleyball, as well as basketball and track. However she was clearly a cut above the rest when it came to the second sport. According to her bio in high school, she was a volleyball player as an outside hitter (middle blocker) and setting (outside blocker). Gatorade Circle of Champions named her the National Player 1999. The 2000 Orange County Athlete of the Month was also received by her in volleyball. Ross and Klineman formed their partnership in 2017, but Ross had been a beach-scene player for years prior to. As a matter of fact, Ross has won several important tournaments throughout her career together with two other partners. One is a volleyball legend. Between 2007 and 2013 she was in a partnership with Jennifer Kessy, who is the coach she is currently. Kessy was Ross's partner on the World Championships in 2009. They were awarded a silver medal during the 2012 Olympic Games held in London. They were beaten out for the gold by the legendary duo comprised of Misty May-Treanor as well as Kerri Walsh (Jennings). Ross Walsh was Walsh Jennings new partner after May-Treanor's resignation. The pair were able to win the beach volleyball bronze during the Rio Olympics in 2016. In high school and the years before she hit the sand professionally, Ross was a ball with the Trojans of USC as an collegiate. The time she spent at USC was awe-inspiring. In 2000, as a freshman the Trojans' performance earned her the Pac-10 as well as NCAA the Freshman of the Year award. She also helped the Trojans reach their first Final Four. Her personal life was tense after a devastating defeat in her sophomore year yet was capable of achieving the All-American award. In her last two years of participation in the Trojans team, she led the Trojans to winning a national title every time. Individually she had cemented her place as a legend by winning the 2003-2004 Honda Sports Award as the most outstanding female college volleyball player. Ross was a student of the study of international relations in USC. Margie Ross did not see her daughter reach the top of the beach volleyball ladder. Ross suffered the loss of her mom to cancer of the breast in 2001. Ross was then a sophomore. However, she keeps her parents close to her the heart. Margie is a source of inspiration in her life and on the beach.
