Rauw Alejandro

Despacito was first released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi in 2017 and became the number one streamed track in just 6 months. It was a mixture of pop music and reggaeton did not just bring interest in reggaeton but also brought attention towards Latin music in general. The Billboard Top 100 featured two songs in Spanish mostly, and four in 2016. In the height of Despacito's chart-topping success in 2017, 19 songs mainly composed in Spanish reached at the very top of 100. This number rose to 41 by 2020. In the wake of Justin Bieber released his bilingual remix of Despacito in the year 2017, popular artists began to collaborate with reggaeton musicians. Drake and Bad Bunny were part of a team for the track MIA MIA (2018) as did Madonna and Maluma. Madonna joined forces with Maluma for Medellin 2019, which was released in 2019. In the year 2020, a handful of reggaeton stars were complaining about their genre's shift towards the mainstream but a new generation of performers, including Rauw Alejandro was determined to keep reggaeton evolving. Incorporating elements of electronic dance music, and various other genres was a typical method.
